In Memory of....

Cheryl Marie Rossini 1967-2009

It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of longtime ASHRAE member and friend, Cheryl Rossini. Bravely fighting cancer for nearly three years, Cheryl passed peacefully on Friday, May 29th.

A 12-year veteran of ASHRAE’s Boston Chapter, Cheryl was more than just a member. She was a dedicated, passionate driver of action; she made an impact on our industry. Treating ASHRAE as if it were her second family, she was the first to offer help and take on responsibilities. It was this dedication that allowed her to earn leadership positions including secretary, vice president, president-elect and president. In fact she had the distinction of serving as the second female president of the Boston Chapter.

In addition to performing the many responsibilities required by her various roles as office holder, Cheryl devoted herself to the success of many ASHRAE events. She served as chairperson for the Chapter Regional Conference and the annual Installation Dinner; assisted with the Product Show and spearheaded the Roster & Product Guide. She knew how important these events are to ASHRAE and her local chapter.

Looking forward to the future of our industry, Cheryl took a great interest in the education of future engineers. Chair of the Student Activities Committee for several years, Cheryl was an active alumna of Wentworth Institute of Technology, attending events and holding meetings with students. One of her most treasured accomplishments is the creation of the ASHRAE Boston Chapter Future Engineers Scholarship, which assists high school seniors interested in studying engineering in college or first or second year engineering students. Thanks to her efforts and the generosity of Mr. Chai Srisirikul, fourteen $2000 scholarships are awarded to aspiring engineers in Massachusetts each year.

Full of life yet fiercely private, Cheryl kept a brave and smiling face throughout her battle. Never once did she complain or let up in her dedication to ASHRAE and our industry. She remained very active, rarely missing a meeting. In fact most members of her Boston Chapter were not even aware of the battle she was fighting.

Cheryl will be deeply missed by all who knew her. ASHRAE is thankful to have had such a dedicated and passionate member. Her contributions to our organization and the industry will be treasured for generations to come.
