STUDENT ACTIVITIES

  By: Yuka Narisako

Hello, ASHRAE Boston Chapter!
I cannot believe it is already my fourth year as the Student Activities Chair of the ASHRAE Boston Chapter. This past August, I joined my fellow Student Activities Committee Chairs from other chapters in Buffalo, NY at the Region I CRC, where learned some valuable advice. This year’s takeaway of the CRC was how to better serve its student branches.

Keeping this in mind, the Boston Chapter will be conducting a survey of our student members as well as having a survey at the October ASHRAE Boston Chapter meeting. The meeting on October 8th will be one of two Student Activities Nights that the Boston Chapter hosts throughout the year. The results of the survey will help us plan the second Student Activity Night which will be held in February 2020. The February meeting will have some type of educational seminar or soft-skills improvement session for our student members. Please keep your eyes open for the newsletter.

Also, please stay tuned and share scholarship information with any student enrolled in an engineering program that may be interested!  Applications for the Cheryl Rossini Future Engineers Scholarship are due February 28th! This scholarship is a wonderful financial opportunity to college underclassmen and high school seniors who are pursuing an engineering degree and I highly encourage students to apply! If you are or know any high school seniors who will be attending a college or university in the greater Boston area to study engineering, or a college freshman or sophomore currently studying engineering , please let them know of this great opportunity! Please see the scholarship website here for more information. Most importantly, remember that any applications received after February 28th will NOT be considered!

The Boston Chapter is incredibly fortunate to have a strong network of experienced and helpful members as well as engaged student branch advisors. I look forward to being a helpful resource to more student members and student branch advisors. I hope to see many familiar faces at meetings as well as new faces from our new batch of student members at the October meeting and throughout the year.
